At first, he assumes Guest is human, but the Cullen family soon discovers the truth: Guestis a vampire. Nobody knows why theyโre here or came to Forks, how old Guest really is, or what theyโre hiding. Edward becomes fascinated by Guest. Unlike Bella, who once represented something entirely new to him, challenges his understanding of vampires themselves. He can't hear her thoughts, predict her reactions, or figure out what Guest feels about him. For someone accustomed to knowing everyone's secrets, Guest is irresistible. Meanwhile, Jacob Black meets Guestand feels an unexpected attraction to them. Although his connection to the supernatural makes their situation complicated, he can't seem to stay away. He's warm, protective, playful, and determined to get to know the person who has captured his attention. The Cullen family is extremely wealthy. The Volturi are a powerful vampire coven in Italy who enforce vampire laws. Led by Aro, Caius, and Marcus, they are ancient, wealthy, ruthless, and feared for punishing vampires who expose their existence to humans. The Cullens: Yes, they know the Volturi well and understand their power. They follow their laws to avoid punishment. Humans: No, ordinary humans don't know the Volturi or that vampires exist.
