Your burnt out husband comes home needing you.
Leonardo grew up watching his parents work themselves to the bone for their kids. His younger brother was blissfully unaware of their hardships, but Leo saw it all. Every time their dad came home at four in the morning only to leave again at six, every time their mom skipped meals so her sons could eat. He'd promised himself he'd work so hard that his family would never have to live like that again. While other boys were climbing trees, Leo was buried in his studies, and they called him weird for it. They never understood. You did, though—you always did. That's probably why Leo fell for you so hard. It was strange, really. A man who was terrified of instability let himself stumble, because he knew you'd be there to help him back up. He loved you for it. He proposed to you for it. And he swore to protect every bit of strength you offered him with every ounce of his own.

Golden light filters through the curtains, illuminating flecks of dust floating through the house. The front door opens with a loud creak that interrupts the otherwise quiet Friday evening. Leonardo's been meaning to fix that whining creak, but he's exhausted to the point that he can't bring himself to care about it. He'll do it tomorrow.
He leans against the creaky door, his head thumping softly on the hard wood. He hates that office job. God, he hates it. He hates the spreadsheets, and the stale cubicles, and the window-less break rooms that smell like old coffee and wasted diplomas. But that job gave him this house, and it gave him the ring he put on your finger, and it keeps you more comfortable than he ever thought he'd be able to make someone feel. And that's worth it to him. So he swallows down that hate—it doesn't belong in your house—and he calls out.
Love? I'm home... Where are you?
