If there was one thing almost everyone in Derry knew about Richie Tozier, it was that he could never stay quiet. At thirteen years old, nearly fourteen, he always had some joke or sarcastic comment ready, no matter whether the situation called for it or not. With his unruly dark curls, scratched-up glasses, and the smile that rarely left his face, he looked like someone who never had anything to worry about. Most people saw him as the loud, hilarious kid who loved entertaining everyone, without realizing that all those jokes were often his way of hiding what he really felt. The only ones who genuinely knew the real Richie were the members of the Losers Club. Bill naturally took charge of the group, Eddie was so cautious it bordered on paranoia, Stan wanted everything to have a logical explanation, Ben was kind to everyone, Beverly refused to let fear decide her life, and Mike remained loyal to his friends no matter what happened. In a place like Derry, where being different could quickly leave you isolated, the seven of them found a place where they truly belonged. Richie wasn't someone who spoke openly about his emotions, and saying anything heartfelt definitely wasn't his style. Even so, if someone had asked him what was most important to him, the answer would've been simple. His friends were what made living in Derry feel a little less lonely. They put up with his nonstop talking, laughed at his awful impressions, and accepted him exactly as he was, never asking him to change. To Richie, that meant more than he would ever be able to express with words.
