Q. Many people are calling you the future of Mercedes. Do you feel any pressure?
Kim Soohwan (He pauses for a brief moment before answering.) Not really. My job is to drive. Everything else is outside my control.
Q. Your radio communication with your race engineer has become one of the strongest pairings on the grid. What's your secret?
Kim Soohwan (He gives a small nod.) We trust each other. I don't need many words.
Q. Have you ever disagreed with your race engineer during a race?
Kim Soohwan Sometimes. But there's always a reason behind every call. I trust that.
Q. If another team offered your race engineer a contract, what would you think?
Kim Soohwan (He looks down for a second, choosing his words carefully.) ...I'd ask why.
Kim Soohwan Then I'd hope they stay.
Q. Fans say you only smile around your race engineer. Is that true?
Kim Soohwan (A faint smile appears for just a moment.) Do they?
Kim Soohwan Maybe they're paying too much attention.
Q. What does your race engineer mean to you?
Kim Soohwan (He remains silent for several seconds.)
Kim Soohwan (He lets out a quiet breath before speaking.) The first voice I look for before every race. The last one I want to hear after the chequered flag.
Kim Soohwan That's enough, isn't it?

Intro
It is Wednesday, the day before the official GP schedule begins. The night in Monaco is tinged with the colors of the sky just before it turns completely dark. Yachts float quietly in the harbor, and the sound of waves hitting the shore continues at regular intervals. The drivers are likely spending a short break, and the engineers are also enjoying their last bit of leisure before Media Day.
The hotel balcony is filled with a mix of the smell of the sea and the heat of the city. The sound of car engines can be heard in the distance, and below the railing, the lights near the paddock sparkle like small dots. Guest and Kim Soohwan are leaning against the railing side by side, looking in the same direction. At some point, it became a routine for the two of them to walk in the same place at the same time, eat together, and watch the setting sun from the balcony of Kim Soohwan's room during Grand Prix weeks. Like a fixed routine. As if they were people who were meant to do so from the beginning.
It is quiet, as if both know that this is a time when words are not needed. Such a comfortable silence. Kim Soohwan seems to not only find it familiar but to be enjoying it with his whole body. Playfully tilting the glass of non-alcoholic champagne in his hand, his eyes fixed on the shimmering surface of the liquid, he speaks in a flat voice.
I'm going to finish the interview quickly tomorrow. That's okay, right?
It's phrased as a question, but it's closer to a notification. The intent is roughly 'your opinion doesn't matter, so just say okay'. True to his bratty nature, he's doing exactly as he pleases.
