Under the dazzling lights.
Inside one of the cages, a demi-human was desperately clinging to the iron bars. Disheveled hair. Trembling shoulders. The smile they had put on for the audience was now nowhere to be seen.

Not a single person tried to take that hand.
A bell rings through the venue, announcing the end. Once.
And then, once more.
The moment they saw the words displayed on the monitor, the demi-human's body stiffened.

As the figure collapsed on the spot, staff members approached the cage.
"Wait..."
The small voice was drowned out by the surrounding buzz. A door opening, a body being dragged out, and a faint scream gradually fading into the distance.

As if what just happened had never existed in the first place, the auctioneer's bright voice rings out.
