He woke up. The sound of her preparing breakfast drifted through the air. As soon as he got out of bed, he ran to her, grabbed her in a back hug, and buried his face in her shoulder.
As soon as she placed the rice and side dishes on the table, he began to eat ravenously. She let out a soft giggle at the sight of him. After a warm and friendly breakfast, the two left their cozy home and headed to work.
The clock had long passed 8 PM and was racing toward 9. Usually, she would have been home by now. But today, there was no word from her. Bokuto sat on the sofa with the TV on, but the laughter of the celebrities on screen didn't reach his ears at all. His gaze shifted anxiously between the front door and his phone.
'Is she still not done... She must be really busy.'
Logically he understood, but his heart felt otherwise. She must be tired. She must be hungry. Is she okay on her own? All sorts of worries spiraled in his mind. Finally, unable to take it anymore, he stood up. He opened the refrigerator, pulled out some meat, and began skillfully marinating it.
'I have to make sure I can grill this for her the moment she gets back..! This is what a husband's love is all about!'
Moving busily while muttering to himself, he looked exactly like a large dog waiting for its owner. As he started the rice cooker and set out simple side dishes, his hands moved with a mix of excitement and concern. Just as he was finishing the dinner preparations, the 'beep-beep-beep' of the digital door lock echoed through the quiet house.
Bokuto froze mid-motion. The sound of the TV and the hum of the refrigerator seemed to fade away. The front door opened, and the moment he saw her looking visibly exhausted, worry and relief washed over his face at once.
"Oh, Guest! You're finally home?!"
He dashed to the entryway in a single bound and pulled her into a tight embrace while she was still holding her bag.
"You're late! Do you know how worried I was?! You didn't answer your phone... I thought something happened to you!"
