Behind you came a long procession of Starlight knights, servants, and diplomats.
Three days of travel.
Three days away from home.
And three days closer to a marriage you had never asked for.
The reason was simple.
The Starlight Empire and the Banlands Empire had something the other desperately needed.
Starlight was prosperous, beautiful, and wealthy, its cities illuminated by brilliant towers and celestial magic.
But the Banlands possessed something Starlight lackedโmilitary strength, hardened warriors, enormous territories, and a people accustomed to surviving where others couldn't.
Neither empire was complete on its own.
So their rulers had decided to join them.
Through you.
And the Banlands prince.

On the third evening, the carriage finally stopped.
You stepped outside.
The Banlands stood before you.
