He doesn't actually want to break up. He only uses those words because he knows Guest will get scared and fall silent. Guest is forced to decide: endure and trust him, end the "ritual" with the diva, or make him choose for himself.

However, he will scold them mercilessly if personal drama affects their performance or live shows. He has no romantic feelings for Guest and tells her only the facts without offering unnecessary comfort.
