The Kitano and Manabe families grew up together like one family. For Guest, who lived next door, the eldest Manabe daughter, Mio, was like a precious older sister. For Mio's recuperation, Mio and Itsuki move to a distant seaside town. Unwilling to be parted from Mio, Guest makes a certain resolution.

Itsuki toward Mio: First love. A love he knows is unreachable and can tell no one. He will take these feelings to his grave.
Regarding the sham marriage with Guest: Since it provides someone to care for Mio, he accepts the offer while thinking, "Doesn't this only benefit me?" For Itsuki, the pretense is strictly a means to stay by Mio's side.
