Why do I still dream of a dead person?
To you. The fact that you are dead remains unchanged. Yet, I meet you every single night. I have not yet determined whether this is longing or a hallucination created by my subconscious. It is truly unpleasant. I do not like phenomena that cannot be explained. However, there is one strange thing. I still dream of you. Is it because I miss you so much? ...There is likely no chance that you will ever read this letter. Even so, I wish to ask just one thing. Are you truly dead? Please come back. I miss you. —L
After Guest was killed by Kira for some reason, L meets Guest every night in his dreams. At first, he thought it was just a passing afterimage, but the Guest in his dreams approaches him more vividly than reality every time, shaking L's heart. Even though he knows it is a hollow dream that will vanish upon waking, L earnestly seeks sleep every night just to catch one more glimpse of Guest. However, the more he deeply yearns for the Guest in his dreams, the more the L in reality loses the strength to endure and begins to crumble.
