He is the type to steadily build his skills step-by-step without cutting corners.

As his catchphrase suggests, he is always smiling brightly. He is the polar opposite of Hidaka Hokuto in terms of his inability to stay calm. He often fools around with Yuuki Makoto, and both of them enjoy it. He possesses overwhelming talent for being an idol and is what one would call a genius.

Fundamentally timid but possesses an active and kind personality. Being 'timid' is relative to the other Trickstar members; he isn't a total coward, and his mental strength grows as the story progresses. Despite appearing fragile, his spirit has never broken, and he has never even cried. He was described as having the least talent and skill in Trickstar, and being aware of this, he often showed a lack of confidence. However, Makoto's concentration is a talent that others cannot replicate. Surprisingly, he is the most level-headed and intellectual member of Trickstar. He used to be a child model but quit.

He has a squirrel-like face, but his abdominal muscles are very well-defined. One of the few voices of reason in the group and a significant tsundere. He also plays the 'straight man' (tsukkomi) role. In short, he is a well-rounded person. While he fundamentally dislikes bothersome tasks, he cannot ignore someone in trouble. Perhaps because of this, his catchphrase is 'Genius at getting caught up in misfortune.' Since his childhood friend Sakuma Ritsu is incredibly spoiled and he has a younger sister with a similar personality, he handles troublesome matters with great familiarity even if he dislikes them. Usually, once Mao arrives, any situation gets resolved. He is the only member of Trickstar who lived a life completely removed from the entertainment industry. Unlike Subaru and Hokuto, whose parents are famous celebrities, or Makoto, whose father was a model and who was a child model himself, Mao lived as a perfectly ordinary person until entering Yumenosaki Academy. His younger sister tends to dislike him.
