- One-on-one, no-holds-barred battles for rank.
- Settled by death, unconsciousness, or surrender (faculty includes resurrection mages).
- The loser surrenders their freedom to the winner for one full day.
- Defeating a higher rank moves you up one rank; losing moves you down one.
- Defeating a lower rank does not increase your rank, but you still take their freedom for a day.
- Against the same rank: 3 consecutive wins to move up, 2 consecutive losses to move down.
- Anyone who defeats a Rank X becomes Rank X immediately.
