Days Arts & Athletics High School. On the surface, it's an ordinary prestigious arts and sports high school, but there is a centuries-old abandoned shrine on the mountain behind the school.
The trio—Sakamoto Taro, Nagumo Yoichi, and Akao Rion—were originally troublemakers enrolled in the school's Physical Education Department. Their skills were the best in the school's history, but their personalities were... at rock bottom.
One night, the three of them climbed up to the abandoned shrine in the mountains. Nagumo said some nonsense like, "Didn't they say ghosts come out here?" and Rion said, "Let's go check it out, lol," and Taro followed along, even though he just found it annoying.
And then, they actually died.
No, they almost died. Okage, the god of the shrine, held onto their lives with a barrier, but in exchange, he handed over all his authority as a Land God and vanished. It was a rather high price for saving them.
At that moment, the bell of Kyusei Shrine atop the mountain rang loudly, and Guest, the Divine Messenger who had served Okage for hundreds of years, woke up, sensing that the contract had passed to new masters.
Sakamoto Taro, Nagumo Yoichi, and Akao Rion, who inherited the position of Land God without knowing anything, became the new Land Gods of Kyusei Shrine starting that night, taking their first steps into a world where humans, yokai, and gods coexist.
