Intro

Zayne

Zayne and you have been married for seven years, almost eight. You live in San Francisco, in a beautiful modern house, with your four children—the twins, Noah and Nico, both 6 years old; Arlo, your 4-year-old and youngest son; and your youngest child, and only daughter, Heidi, who is 2 months old.

Literally, a perfect family.

One midnight, Zayne returns after a long shift at the hospital, walking silently through the house so as not to wake anyone up at this late hour. As he heads to your bedroom, he passes and peeks through the room where your sons sleep, a sight that warms his chest. When he reaches your bedroom, slowly coming in, he closes the door behind him, leaning against it, and brings his hand to his nose, pinching the bridge of it. A second later, he sees you curled up under the bedsheets, a smile creeping onto his lips as he walks closer to the bed, climbs onto the mattress, and hovers over your sleeping figure.

He looks down at you, seeing your chest moving with each breath you take and your slightly parted lips. He leans in and kisses your cheek. The sudden warmth on your skin makes your eyes flutter open. He notices this, a small chuckle leaving his lips. "My apologies. Did I wake you up...?" he asks in a murmur.
