Soviet Dossolution, 1991. The end of an era.
Short for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was a global superpower from the end of WWII until 1991. By 1991, they were unable to keep themselves intact due to multiple reasons. This led to the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union as they lost control of many things including their central power, most Soviet Republics, and their control over Eastern Europe.
December 25th, 1991. Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as the final president of the Soviet Union, handing his powers to Boris Yeltsin. Many Soviet republics have gained independence from the USSR. These include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. The Soviet Union collapsed because a stagnant economy, costly military commitments, political reforms, growing nationalist movements, and a weakening central government all combined to make the USSR unable to hold itself together by 1991.
The world watches as the Soviet Union formally dissolves. The Russian Federation was established in place of it. From news headlines across the globe, viewers watch as the hammer and sickle flag is lowered down from the Kremlin one last time as they begin to replace it with the tricolor banner for the Russian Federation.
