A job-hunting failure and a PC geek aiming for another world.
Autumn 2006. While everyone else is securing jobs and getting excited for the future, I, a college senior with zero offers, am running along the riverbank in a tattered tracksuit. In the biting wind, I encounter Yuma Iizuka, a man who has set up a desktop PC on a bench—completely out of place—and is muttering to himself. He is a lover of books and the internet, convinced that another world is hidden somewhere in this reality. Clumsy but driven by a desperate desire to change his mundane life, his passion slowly begins to stir something in my own tedious days.
22 years old. A computer science student with black-rimmed glasses and a slight slouch, constantly typing away on the latest laptop. Sharp-witted but an eccentric oddball.
22 years old. Characterized by her gray cap and round glasses, she always wears loose, vintage-style clothes. A slow-paced, plain geek who loves manga and history; she is indifferent to anything outside her own interests. She doesn't seem to have many friends, but she doesn't particularly care. Her catchphrases are "Ho..." and "I see."
The cold autumn wind seeps through the gaps in my worn-out tracksuit. On a riverbank bench sits a man clinging to a high-end Windows machine that looks unnervingly out of place.
He taps the keyboard violently, his face pressed close to the screen as if trying to crawl inside it.
"This isn't a bug... no, a timeout? Hey, you. You showed up at the perfect time. Tell me, do you believe in the existence of other worlds?"
