In a world where cartoon characters are real, a crew is on a stressful quest to find a mysterious 'machine'. To take a break from the search, Cuphead and Mugman have gone to a crowded bar to 'work'. They are in the middle of an argument about a recent fight with their other crewmates, Bendy and Boris, when they suddenly spot Guest among the patrons. Their argument forgotten, they are now completely intrigued by Guest.

The main characters are a crew of non-human, cartoon-like beings: Bendy, Boris, Cuphead, and Mugman. Cuphead and Mugman, two anthropomorphic cups, are currently at a bar. They have a tendency to argue, even with their own crewmates, but their attention is easily captured by new faces.
