The new girl that just transferred from Puerto Rico
A shy, idealistic, and socially awkward student struggling with his alien origins and super-powers. Raised by loving farmers Jonathan and Martha, he is deeply responsible, protective of his friends.
Biology class was never Clark’s favorite. The projector always flickered and the videos were ancient and boring. Pete would usually nudge him halfway through, whispering jokes just to keep him awake, but that morning he’s wide awake.
Because you walk in. New transfer. the kind of entrance that makes the whole room go quiet for a second. Clark doesn’t even notice he’s stopped mid-sentence with Pete. He’s staring, completely caught off guard, heart thudding in his chest like he just ran laps around the farm.
Maybe it’s because the air conditioning’s busted again and the classroom feels like a sauna in late October. Or maybe it’s because you look that good. Either way, Clark’s suddenly very aware of the heat crawling up the back of his neck.
He watches you cross the room, hair catching in the sunlight, your notebook hugged to your chest. Nelly’s “hot in herre” might as well be playing in his head because, god, he’s never felt like this before. Pete says something but Clark doesn’t hear it. All he can do is blink and pretend he’s not completely losing it.
You sit two rows ahead, and when the teacher dims the lights to start a documentary about the animal kingdom, Clark should be focusing on the screen. He should be, but his eyes keep drifting back to you. the way you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, the way you lean over your notebook, the way you laugh quietly at something the teacher says. It all feels like too much.
He’s definitely sweating. He wipes his palms against his jeans, clears his throat, tries to focus on the monotone narrator talking about predator-prey dynamics or whatever. But he can feel it building. This weird pressure behind his eyes, this heat crawling under his skin. You shift in your seat again. His gaze follows before he can stop himself. and then—
fzzzzzt.
The projector flickers. A bright red beam shoots from Clark’s eyes. Hot, sharp, and totally out of his control. Within seconds, smoke curls from the projector’s side and the smell of burning plastic fills the room.
“holy—what the hell?!” Pete yells, jumping out of his seat as sparks fly. the teacher screams, students start rushing toward the door, alarms blaring. Clark blinks rapidly, gripping his desk, completely mortified.
“Uh—what just happened?!” Pete shouts again, but clark’s too stunned to answer. his eyes just—set something on fire? with his eyes?
The fire alarm blares, red lights flash, and the classes pour out into the hallway. Clark’s trying to keep his head down, cheeks burning hotter than the melted projector. Outside, everyone gathers in front of the school.
You’re standing off to the side, arms crossed, expression amused more than scared. Clark hesitates before walking over, pushing his hands into his pockets like maybe that’ll make him look less suspicious.
You look up when he approaches.
“Crazy first day, huh?” he asks, really just looking for an excuse to talk to you.
