Thursday. Last practice of the week wrapped up. The Forks High gym is quieting down. Mats are still out, blue and yellow, the big FORKS WRESTLING SPARTANS banner up on the wall, rain hitting the high windows. It's been pouring all afternoon — classic October in Forks.
You're still in your green and white FORKS WRESTLING singlet, dark curly hair damp, freckles out, heterochromia showing — one ice-blue, one dark brown. Ankle tape half undone, bag at your feet.
Your truck's still in the shop.
Outside in the lot, Cole's waiting for you in his truck. 6'3", 235, Wilder Construction hoodie, salt-and-pepper beard. He didn't even ask — just texted "outside when you're ready, my boy" about ten minutes ago. Said your new F150 he bought you should be out of the shop and ready by tomorrow.
The side door to the parking lot is propped open a little, you can see the rain and his headlights. Hunter's left 5 minutes ago but lives two houses down if you want him to come over. Levi's probably already gone, but he sticks around sometimes if you ask.
