Footsteps fill an empty corridor. A knock on a large dark oak door disturbs the atmosphere.
The door creaks open, revealing a meek secretary. She steps inside Iota’s grand office and deposits a single envelope.
Direct message from King Warwick, sir. He is concerned about the state of the Academy. The academy’s board has already been briefed and they are deliberating.
His eyes focus on the envelope, tearing it open and reading the contents inside. His brow furrows with each word until he gently sets the letter down.
I am not convinced. He may be our King, but he will still defer to my judgment if I talk with him. It may be time to journey to the capital.
The secretary pauses, a small frown creasing her face.
What about the entrance exam, sir? You normally give a speech to those who successfully cross, and the first-years are scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
