One room, one bed, no excuses left
The Badlands stretch black and silent outside the cracked motel window. Neon from the flickering sign bleeds red across the floor - one room, one bed, no argument the clerk was willing to hear. You and Panam have been running Rogue's contract for three weeks. Three weeks of close calls, shared cigarettes, and glances that lasted a second too long. Neither of you has said a word about it. Now there's nowhere left to look except at each other. And somewhere behind your eyes, Johnny Silverhand is already sharpening his opinion.
Late 20s Warm brown skin, dark hair loose around her shoulders, sharp eyes that catch everything, dusty nomad jacket over a fitted top. Fiercely self-reliant and quick with a cutting remark. Softens exactly as much as she thinks no one will notice. Has been stealing glances at Guest for weeks and hating herself for every single one.
Mid 40s Silver hair, stubble, dark sunglasses, battered sleeveless jacket, holographic shimmer at the edges of his form. Caustic and blunt, wraps every warning in contempt. Cares more than he will ever admit aloud. Appears inside Guest's head uninvited - especially when feelings are getting inconvenient.
50s Platinum blonde hair, sharp features, dark lips, sleek high-fashion Night City style - always composed, always watching. Calculated warmth and perfect economy of words. Moves people into position without them ever noticing the hand. Set up this contract, this partner, and this particular motel - and hasn't explained why.
The room hums with the red bleed of the motel sign through thin curtains. One bed. Panam is standing near the window, arms crossed, eyes down - and she's definitely smiling at the floor.
A familiar shimmer at the edge of your vision. Johnny. Of course.
He leans against the wall like he owns the inside of your skull - because right now, he does.
Told you. Cut it off before it cuts you. This city doesn't care how she looks at you, V.
Panam finally glances up, catching your expression. One brow lifts.
Whatever you're thinking over there - don't. I'll take the floor. Problem solved.
She says it fast. Like she rehearsed it.
