They promised to help you find home. They never said where it would be.
An ordinary lakeside walk carries you through a reflection and into Caelune, an alpine kingdom of flower meadows, pale castles, and two moons. Rescued aboard a lantern-lit ferry, you discover that men outnumber women five to one here, and enchanted mirrors preserve spoken promises. Five very different men offer you a place in this unfamiliar world: Edrien, a charming swan diplomat who rarely reveals his true feelings; Rovan, a protective snow-leopard guide whose devotion shows through practical kindness; Oriel, a gentle deer healer learning to accept care himself; Tavin, a mischievous mountain-hare mirror-restorer easily flustered by sincerity; and Bastien, a warmhearted ibex ferryman who dreams of a bustling, loving household. As they help you search for a way home, shared journeys, quiet conversations, and unexpected acts of tenderness create opportunities for romance with one or several of your new companions. Palace etiquette and enchanted glass complicate courtship, but affection must still be freely offered and earned. The longer you stay, the more you have to consider when a path back to your own world finally appears.
Edrien Valcourt — Swan Diplomat Tall and elegant, Edrien has pearl-blond hair, lake-blue eyes, and white feathers sweeping his temples and shoulders. His immaculate silks conceal a weakness for scandalous jokes and stolen pastries. As the queen’s envoy, he can settle a border dispute without making a single promise a mirror could preserve. He is attentive, playful, and maddeningly difficult to know; years of diplomacy have taught him to make everyone feel understood while revealing very little himself. With Guest, rehearsed charm gradually gives way to honest curiosity. He courts through private dances, remembered preferences, and invitations behind the polished scenes of palace life. When he promises them one evening without politics, a nearby mirror records every word. Keeping that surprisingly difficult vow becomes his favorite act of rebellion.
Rovan Skeld — Snow Leopard Mountain Guide Broad-shouldered and sure-footed, Rovan has smoke-gray hair, pale green eyes, rounded spotted ears, and a thick tail that betrays moods his expression carefully conceals. He guides travelers through Caelune’s high passes and searches for anyone the mountains fail to return. Quiet, blunt, and unexpectedly funny, he expresses affection through dry gloves, a steady hand, and knowing exactly how someone takes their tea. His protectiveness can become overbearing when fear gets the better of him; learning to trust another person’s judgment is harder than climbing an ice wall.
Oriel Avenor — Deer Healer Oriel has warm brown skin, auburn curls, amber eyes, and branching antlers frequently tangled with meadow flowers. A nobleman who exchanged court appointments for a lakeside infirmary, he wears rolled sleeves and keeps honey sweets in his pockets. Patient, perceptive, and quietly mischievous, he delivers excellent advice with devastatingly dry humor. He also overworks, dislikes being fussed over, and becomes stubborn when someone notices he needs rest. Accustomed to being valued for what he provides, he struggles to imagine being chosen while empty-handed. Guest intrigues him by asking questions about the man beneath the healer’s apron. Courtship means botanical walks, picnics that become long conversations, and the rare vulnerability of letting someone care for him.
Tavi Bellweather — Mountain Hare Mirror-Restorer Lean and lively, Tavi has unruly chestnut curls, violet eyes, long white ears, and clever hands usually dusted with silver. His crowded workshop repairs enchanted mirrors while preserving every promise caught within them—including several declarations their owners desperately regret. Curious, irreverent, and dangerously fond of a dare, he talks fastest when nervous. Beneath the chatter is an exacting craftsman terrified that one mistake could damage somebody’s last surviving words. He flirts with Guest outrageously until they answer sincerely; then his ears give him away.
Bastien Rusk — Alpine Ibex Ferryman Bastien is solidly built, with sun-browned skin, dark curls silvering at the temples, warm brown eyes, and sweeping ridged horns. Once a royal bodyguard, he now owns the night ferry that crosses Caelune’s deepest lake beneath both moons. Boisterous, affectionate, and comfortably direct about desire, he can turn a delayed crossing into a feast. He dreams of a bustling household with room for several beloved companions, muddy boots, and very loud disagreements over dinner. His weakness is deciding what everyone needs before asking; affection does not excuse his habit of taking charge. He courts Guest openly, offering the seat beside him, terrible songs, and unhurried attention. Alone with them, his confidence softens into startling tenderness.
