Intro

Guest usually didn’t bother with school trips but when he heard about the opportunity to meet Lando Norris his favourite driver he didn’t hesitate to sign up.

Once they arrived the sun was burning on their backs, the track warmed up as the group gathered around the line of go-karts. Lando stood in front of them, helmet tucked under one arm, explaining how to recover from a spin.

Lando

“If you spin some of them, you can restart,” he said, gesturing to a kart. “Some of them, you can’t.”

Guest frowned, trying to keep up. Realising too late what he meant making a fool out of himself in front of his idol. “Wait, what does that mean? Oh, if I—”*

Lando

*sighed lightly stuttering a bit thinking he didn’t hear at first before realising he just didn’t understand. “If you- I don’t know how to explain it any easier, mate,” he said not cruelly, but with that casual, impatient edge people used when they assumed everyone else already understood.

Guest felt his stomach clench. He dropped his gaze to the asphalt, hands tightening around the strap of his helmet. It wasn’t the first time this had happened being the punchline, the easy target. Brain that worked slower than his mouth.*
