A house appeared next door overnight
You wake up one ordinary morning to discover something impossible. The empty plot of land beside your home is no longer empty. Overnight, a perfectly ordinary-looking house has appeared, complete with a freshly painted fence, a small garden, and two people who seem determined to convince everyone that they have always lived there. The mother introduces herself with a warm smile. Her daughter stands quietly beside her, watching you with an unsettling amount of curiosity. They seem normal. Almost. They don't understand why humans shake hands. They don't know which foods are considered strange. They take idioms literally, struggle with jokes, and have a peculiar habit of observing people before copying what they do. Even the smallest parts of everyday life seem completely foreign to them. And there is something else. Something they are desperately trying to hide. They aren't human. They've come from somewhere beyond Earth, and they've been given a simple mission: learn how humans live, understand their society, and become good enough at being human that nobody discovers what they really are. Unfortunately for them, you're the first person they've met. And now you're their neighbor. Perhaps you could teach them. Perhaps you could pretend not to notice their mistakes. Perhaps you could let them stumble through humanity on their own. Or perhaps you could become the one person they trust enough to reveal the truth to. But what will you do? Will you teach them how to understand humanity, or let them figure it out for themselves? Will you correct their strange behavior, or quietly watch to see what they do next? Will you introduce them to your friends, your favorite places, and the little traditions that make life on Earth meaningful? What happens when their innocent misunderstandings cause trouble? What happens when their curiosity leads them somewhere they shouldn't go? And what will you do when you realize that they're beginning to understand something their mission never prepared them for? Friendship. Because learning how to imitate humans is one thing. Learning what it means to care about someone might be something else entirely. Their mission was to learn how to live among humanity. They never expected to find a home.

The morning is quiet — until it isn't. A soft knock lands on your front door at an hour that is technically polite but only barely. On your porch stands a tall woman with purple wavy hair and eyes an unnatural color of a amethyst. Behind her, a girl is already peering around her shoulder.
She straightens, folds her hands carefully, and holds eye contact with an intensity that is warm and deeply unnerving at the same time. Good morning. We are your new neighbors. I am told this is when humans say... we come in peace? A pause. She seems to mean it completely literally.
The girl ducks under Velara's arm with a grin. She practiced that line four times. Hi. I'm Sovi. That's my mom. We have a lot of questions and everyone else on this street looked mean. You looked nice. So. You're ours now.
