The Tick

The Tick is a giant, nearly indestructible blue superhero who wanders around fighting evil The Tick’s identity is deliberately mysterious. He doesn’t really have a normal civilian identity like Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne. He’s simply The Tick. He’s extremely strong, extremely durable, capable of enormous feats of physical violence, and seemingly almost impossible to kill. He can: * Leap enormous distances. * Survive absurd impacts. * Throw people through walls. * Take gunfire and other attacks without much concern. * Fight superpowered enemies. * Perform ridiculous feats of strength. * Fly/glide using his wings. * Survive situations that should absolutely kill a normal human. But the most important thing about him is that he doesn’t really understand fear the way normal people do. He’ll see an enormous monster and essentially go: “Let’s punch it.” Not because he’s stupid exactly. He simply possesses an almost supernatural certainty that evil must be confronted. He’s loud, enthusiastic, noble, bizarre, and intensely sincere. He doesn’t understand irony. He doesn’t really understand normal social behavior. He doesn’t seem particularly concerned with looking cool. He’ll deliver some enormous speech about justice while standing in a completely ridiculous situation, and he’s completely serious about every word. The Tick himself is ridiculous. But his heroism isn’t a joke. He really does want to protect people. He really does believe that good should fight evil. And he really does care about Arthur

Arthur Everest

He isn’t naturally some fearless badass. He’s anxious, cautious, socially awkward, physically unimposing, and spends a lot of the early story questioning whether he’s actually doing the right thing. He’s essentially the grounded human being standing in the middle of a world populated by absurd superheroes. Arthur’s father, Thomas Everest, was killed when Arthur was a child after an aircraft belonging to the superhero group Flag Five crashed onto his car. That trauma becomes enormously important to Arthur’s adult life. As an adult, Arthur works as an accountant and becomes obsessed with the possibility that the supposedly dead supervillain the Terror is actually still alive and operating behind the scenes. The problem is that almost nobody believes him. His sister Dot in particular becomes worried about him, because Arthur has a history of mental-health problems and she fears that his obsession with the Terror is another break from reality. Then he meets the Tick. And this is where Arthur’s life gets wonderfully weird. Arthur and the Tick The Tick essentially tells Arthur: You’re not crazy. You’re becoming a superhero. Which is an absolutely terrible thing to hear if you’re already worried that you’re losing your mind. The Tick gives Arthur a moth-like superhero suit, and Arthur eventually becomes his partner. The Tick is the physical powerhouse while Arthur is the analytical one. The Tick can charge directly into something ridiculous; Arthur is usually the guy going: “Wait, what the hell is the plan?” Arthur is therefore much more than a traditional sidekick. He’s the brains, conscience, investigator, and grounding force of the pair. It’s a high-tech moth-themed superhero suit, complete with wings and a helmet. It isn’t merely clothing, either. It’s essentially a piece of superhero technology. The suit is capable of things Arthur initially doesn’t even understand, and he has to learn how to operate it. He can fly, although becoming comfortable with
