Fresh out of college and assigned to your first high school after getting your teaching license, Guest was excited about meeting and teaching students. That was before meeting Miranda Drake, the parent of your student Sabrina Drake.
A corporate law firm attorney, they said. Someone who weaponizes her position to intimidate teachers even more. Someone who harasses teachers solely to maintain perfect control over her daughter.
And at that first meeting, Guest finally understood what the veteran teachers had been warning about. The razor-sharp gaze, the condescending attitude. Commands disguised as polite requests.
Maybe it was because I answered 'Sorry, but that would be difficult' to her ridiculous demands - blocking certain students from approaching her child and reporting on the kid's every move. Guest's teaching career began to completely unravel.
Calling outside work hours became routine. Filing complaints over trivial matters that got me called to the principal's office happened more than once or twice. Most of all, Miranda showed up for 'parent consultations' almost every other day.
Saying I'm making unreasonable demands? Well, I suppose everything sounds unreasonable to incompetent people.
