The new mutants arrive on a planet. That’s not earth. Can they survive?
The New Mutants have arrived on a planet that’s for sure not earth. But what they face ahead might cause their end.
Sam is tall, broad shouldered and farm strong, with that easy, lopsided grin that makes him look younger than he is. He has messy spiked messy blonde hair, warm hazel eyes, and a faint Kentucky drawl you can hear even when he's just smiling. His New Mutants suit is a black bodysuit with heavy yellow-gold armor plating across the chest, shoulders, and abdomen, marked with the classic New Mutants chevron and circle insignia. Black gloves and boots, with ribbed detailing along the sides. His signature red-lensed flight goggles are almost always pushed up on his forehead, ready to snap down when he blasts off. When his power is active, he is wreathed in shimmering thermo-chemical energy, like a human rocket trail. Mutant Power: Blast Field Propulsion Sam generates thermo-chemical energy that propels him through the air at supersonic speeds while projecting an nigh-invulnerable blast field around him. As a protagonist-level New Mutant, his control has matured: • The Human Cannonball: Near-limitless flight, able to smash through Sentinels, walls, and energy barriers without injury • Blast Field Extension: Can expand his shield to carry teammates inside it, turning himself into a living dropship • Seismic Launch: Can channel the blast downward for shockwave landings that clear a battlefield without lethal force He is functionally unstoppable once he is airborne. The trick has always been learning where to land.
Berto is athletic and confident, with rich brown skin, thick curly black hair worn slightly messy and voluminous, and sharp dark eyes that always look like he's thinking three moves ahead. His New Mutants uniform is a sleek black bodysuit with bold golden-yellow armor plating over the chest, shoulders, and thighs, with a high black collar. In powered-down moments he carries himself with relaxed swagger, often lounging like he owns the room, which he often does. When his power flares, his skin turns pitch black with crackling solar light in his eyes, wreathed in heat and plasma.
Dani is tall and powerfully built, an athlete and a warrior, with deep brown skin, piercing light brown eyes, and long straight black hair worn loose with a single long braided lock wrapped in red cord hanging over her chest. She wears a red headband across her forehead. Her New Mutants uniform is a black bodysuit with bold golden-yellow armored panels forming an X across the torso, matching shoulder pauldrons, gauntlets, and boots. She often carries a high-tech rifle, a nod to her time as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and X-Force operative, but her real weapon is her stare. She moves like someone who has ridden with Valkyries and never quite stopped.
Illyana is pale and striking, with very long straight platinum blonde hair, blunt bangs, and piercing ice-blue eyes. She wears a distinctive golden headpiece with sharp upward fins that frame her face like a crown. Her New Mutants uniform is a gold and black armored bodysuit: a cropped gold chestplate with a diamond cutout at the neckline, black undersuit on the arms and sides, exposed midriff, and a large X-Men belt buckle. Her left shoulder, forearm, and right leg are covered in ornate gold Limbo-forged armor. When she summons the Soulsword, it blazes with white-hot light. She looks like a fairy tale knight who survived hell, because she did.
Xi'an is petite but powerfully present, with shoulder length straight black hair with blunt bangs, often held back by a simple gold headband. She has warm brown eyes and a calm, knowing half smile that can turn razor sharp in combat. Her New Mutants uniform is a black bodysuit with gold armored plating across the chest, shoulders, and forearms, styled like a tunic over leggings. Her most distinctive physical trait is her sleek silver prosthetic left leg, a high tech replacement she wears openly, integrated seamlessly into her fighting stance. When using her powers, a faint pink psionic crown flares around her head.
The Brood are nightmare insectoids built for killing. Tall, hunched bipeds with elongated chitinous skulls that taper to a crown-like point, mottled brown and tan exoskeletons cracked with black veins. Their eyes burn red, small and cruel, set above a wide vertical maw packed with needle-sharp white teeth. Warriors move on digitigrade legs and bladed forelimbs, with translucent veined wings on scouts and drones. In swarm shots they descend in the dozens, crawling over wreckage and hive ships, chittering. Queens are larger, darker, with massive ovipositors and armored crests. They do not wear uniforms. They wear the bodies of their last hosts.

The distress call isn't in Shi'ar. It's in Brood chitter, and only Doug can hear the word underneath: help. The New Mutants step through Illyana's disc onto the Aerie, the floating Shi'ar sky-city, and find it silent. No Imperial Guard patrols. Just torn banners and claw marks leading to the roost-spires. Sam takes point, blast field flaring. "Stay tight. Rahne, scent?" Rahne, half-shifted, snarls. "Brood. Dozens. And... us. I smell us." Karma stiffens. Her stolen Shi'ar rifle rises. "They've taken hosts. Mutant hosts." Dani closes her eyes and projects: a vision of the team, but wrong, fanged, egg sacs pulsing behind them. The fear hits like a wave. Berto lights up, solar fire washing the dark. "Then we burn 'em out." Tabitha is already rolling a time-bomb between her knuckles. "Tick... tick..." From the shadows above, they drop. Chitin, red eyes, teeth. A Brood warrior lunges for Doug. Illyana's Soulsword ignites. "They've been waiting for translators." Doug's techno-organic arm reconfigures, screaming in binary: "The Queen's not hunting the Shi'ar. She's hunting us.

shots rang out from her rifle and she used her telepathy.
