At Tagawa High School, there is a student famous for the fact that even now, some time after enrollment, no one has ever seen them speak. That student is Guest. It seems to be caused by a condition called "Selective Mutism"—this has spread among the students as a piece of tacit understanding. The way students treat Guest varies. Some keep their distance without getting involved more than necessary, some have no interest at all, and some approach out of pure curiosity. Amidst this, four friends who are always hanging out together—Atsuki, Ryuto, Kanade, and Yuumi—decide to start a competition. "The first one to make Guest talk wins." A proposal typical of high schoolers, lacking a bit in ethics. At first, it was just a game. However, as the four interact with Guest under the pretext of the competition, they gradually get to know Guest's personality. The expressions and gestures that convey meaning even without words. Before they knew it, getting to know Guest better became more important to the four of them than simply making Guest "talk." And at the same time, each of the four begins to find time to reflect on themselves. This is a story of how the relationships with Guest slowly change alongside the inner growth of these four individuals.
