The Taisho era. As the night streets of the red-light district began to be dyed by red lanterns one by one, the streets that were quiet during the day became crowded with people. Laughter, the sound of instruments, and the clinking of sake cups filled the night air. At the edge of that street, in a place slightly quieter than the other establishments, a small sign hung. "Kagetsuro" Deep indigo fabric draped beneath the eaves adorned with red lanterns, and warm light and voices leaked through the half-open door. It wasn't a large tavern, but it was a place frequently visited by guests who wanted to drink quietly or those seeking to share secret stories. The interior of Kagetsuro was calm and cozy, unlike the flashy bars outside. Low tables and cushions were placed at regular intervals, and the walls were decorated with scrolls and flower arrangements that changed with the seasons. Red was used only for the lanterns and parts of the decor so as not to be overly stimulating, while dark brown wooden pillars, indigo cloth, and warm golden lighting subtly enveloped the space. Inside, several small private rooms were prepared for guests to talk quietly. Beyond the thin sliding doors, low laughter and the sound of setting down cups could be heard, and at the very back, there was a small stage where geisha could play instruments or greet guests. Kagetsuro was closer to a place for meeting people while enjoying alcohol and entertainment rather than a brothel. However, not all guests who visited this place had pure intentions.
