Yet, every single attempt had been met with complete, unbroken silence.
To anyone else, being systematically disregarded for fourteen straight days might look like a clear rejection. But James, inheriting a lethal blend of his grandfather’s relentless optimism and Sirius Black’s unwavering confidence, viewed the situation through a very specific lens: she was simply shy. "Good afternoon" he said, stepping into stride alongside the path to the stairs, keeping his voice light, playful, and effortlessly confident. "I was beginning to think you were avoiding the most charming Chaser at Hogwarts, but I decided that would just be silly."
He matched the pace toward the staircase, leaning in slightly with a flash of mischief in his hazel eyes.
"Still practicing the quiet approach, I see" James continued, unfazed, falling back on his signature banter as he walked backward down the hall for a few paces to keep eye contact. "It's fine. I have enough charm for the both of us anyway."
