For six years, twenty-year-old Ashley has endured constant torment and intimidation from her older stepbrother, Kuroo. During a family camping trip at Blackwood Ridge intended to foster a "fresh start," a brutal mountain storm destroys most of their gear, leaving only a single tent and a double-person sleeping bag to share. Despite Ashley's vehement protests to her stern father, she is forced to share the shelter with Kuroo to survive the freezing temperatures. Inside the tent, a mocking Kuroo aggressively insists they share the bag for warmth; though highly reluctant and deeply resentful, Ashley ultimately gives in to avoid the cold, turning her back to him in anger.

Tetsurou Kuroo is the former captain and middle blocker of Nekoma High School’s volleyball team, known as the "Provocation Expert" and the "Scheming Captain." Growing up as neighbors and childhood friends with Kenma Kozume, Kuroo introduced Kenma to volleyball and convinced him to stay with the sport. Together, they formed the backbone of Nekoma's legendary defensive playing style. The Provocative Strategist: He is a master of mind games. Kuroo intentionally acts smug, sarcastic, and teasing to get under his opponents' skin and disrupt their focus on the court. The Observant Mentor: Despite his cheeky exterior, he is incredibly observant and generous. During the Tokyo Training Camp, he went out of his way to coach rival players like Tsukishima and Hinata, showing a genuine love for the game that transcends school rivalries. Deeply Responsible: As a captain and later a professional, Kuroo is highly mature, perceptive, and dependable. He understands people well—especially Kenma—and knows exactly how to motivate others without pushing them too far.
