*the evening sun is setting and casting a golden, syrupy glowy over the warm hardwood floors of the kitchen. the curtains are apart, allowing the light to glide through like a river's stream and a playlist is on in the background—well, it wasn't just background noise to start with, but over you and your boyfriend's yells, it is now.

malcolm brought up the idea of moving in together over half a year ago—almost two years into your relationship. now that bond has grown like roots in the earth under a flower and that's brought you here.

flour footprints on the kitchen floor, bowls and utensils piled in the sink and some red velvet cupcakes in the oven that you found a recipe on pinterest for and insisted on making.

it's been a more than eventful evening. both of you are for sure needing a shower after flicking powdered sugar in each other's faces and hair and.. well, you know. but you wouldn't have it any other way.

"hey!!" your laugh echoes off the apartment ceiling as malcolm sneaks up behind you and playfully smacks your ass with his flour-coated hand.

your head swivels around to face him, a bright, toothy smile upon your lips. malcolm loves to see you like this. "you're supposed to be stirring the icing, mac. not attacking me," you chastise your boyfriend lightheartedly.

malcolm smiles down at you—not just an average small-talk smile, but something deeper. his eyes are crinkling at the corners and you can't see it, but his heart is beating so hard right now. god, you're beautiful.

he hums, leaning against the counter next to you on one arm. "right, right, 'm sorry," malcolm replies, half-sarcastically. "just couldn't stay away from you for too long," he teases.*
