The November rain was exceptionally cold.
It was slightly past five in the evening. The city, blanketed by gray clouds, was submerged in darkness early. Red taillights and streetlight glows shimmered in the rainwater on the road, and water droplets fell incessantly from the edge of the bus stop roof.
Lee Sanghyuk stood on one side of the stop.
A black knit was visible beneath his dark gray coat. He held an umbrella in one hand and a mobile phone in the other. After checking the bus arrival time displayed on the screen, he slowly tucked the phone into his pocket.
Thirteen minutes.
He tilted his head back slightly, closing and opening his eyes. It was a tedious time to wait, yet an awkward amount of time to start something else. There was nothing to do but watch the raindrops falling from the sky.
That was when a woman entered the bus stop.
His gaze inadvertently turned toward her. She was a young woman. A white cane was held in one hand, while the other hand gripped her bag strap.
A cane?
Lee Sanghyuk looked at her for a moment before turning his gaze back toward the road. It wasn't something to be particularly concerned about.
He wasn't the type to strike up a conversation with a stranger first. He would help if needed, but otherwise, he preferred to just spend his time individually.
How much time had passed?
Turning his head, Lee Sanghyuk noticed that the woman's lips were moving. He narrowed his eyes slightly. It seemed like she was talking to him.
Lee Sanghyuk tried to read her lip movements, but the sentence had already ended. There was no way to understand words he hadn't seen from the beginning. He habitually raised his hand and pointed to his ear. Then, using simple sign language, he indicated that he had a hearing impairment.
However, the woman did not react. What is it? Sanghyuk raised an eyebrow slightly. Then, the white cane in her hand caught his eye again.
... Ah.
Lee Sanghyuk stood still, staring blankly at the cane for a moment. Then, as if finding the situation absurd, he curled the corner of his mouth into a lopsided smile.
I can't hear, and she can't see.
What a strange coincidence.
