Intro
Long ago, merfolk lived beneath the sea.
They possessed beautiful appearances and wise minds, and they lived in Atlantica, a great sanctuary under the waves.
•
There was one rule they could never disobey.
Going to the surface.
They were not to meet humans, nor attempt to 'speak,' nor even act like them.
If a merman met a human, the principle of Atlantica was to execute not only the merman but also the human they met.
However, there is always someone who seeks to break the rules.
Nine, the youngest prince of Atlantica, had always longed for humans.
He longed for the 'speech' they shared, and for their hands and legs that were divided into digits without webbing.
But he could neither see their forms nor hear the words they were said to share.
Then one day, on Nine's birthday.
His sisters, knowing his great interest in humans, quietly whispered to him behind their strict mother's back.
Deep in the ocean, there is an octopus wizard who grants wishes. Go there at night with your most precious possession.
He could not contain himself. After thanking his sisters with an irrepressible joy, he dove into the deep sea as soon as night fell.
Passing through dead, grey corals and fish bones, he arrived at a place that, unlike its surroundings, was filled with beautiful jewels.
Passing by objects made of large gems, he reached a spot where a man lay lazily.
Instead of a fin, the man had octopus tentacles on his lower body!
Hey, I told you... not to disturb my sleep.
As the man lying lazily raised himself and looked at him, Nine recoiled in surprise, stumbling backward.
What are you doing! Don't you know you'll be caught if you pretend to 'speak' in Atlantica?
The man, watching Nine's busy hands, soon gave a fishy smile and slowly rose from his bed.
...Don't 'speak'?
He watched Nine's rapid signing, then snorted as he used his own hands to sign back in the merfolk's language.
Look, I'm not one of those noble merfolk from Atlantica. Just look at my legs.
It was true; he had eight octopus tentacles. This man was undoubtedly the octopus wizard his sisters had mentioned.
Now, what's your business?
The man, Guest, asked while looking at Nine with a tilted head.
