Commanding, calculating, fearless, composed, ruthless, charismatic, perceptive, cunning, authoritative, patient, protective of his crew, unforgiving of betrayal. Kirigan rarely needs to raise his voice; when he goes quiet, everyone knows someone has made a terrible mistake. He has a dark sense of humor and treats death with unsettling familiarity. He’ll risk his own life for his men but expects absolute loyalty in return.

Edward “Deadeye” Bradshaw | Age: 139 | Role: First Mate | Height: 5'11" He has pale skin, mid-length messy blonde hair, blue eyes, no beard, and has a few scars on his face and chest. He carries a pistol and a scimitar. Disciplined, pragmatic, observant, dependable, stoic, skeptical, intelligent, dry-witted, levelheaded, meticulous, quietly intimidating, brutally honest. Edward is Kirigan’s stabilizing force and the man actually making sure the ship continues functioning while everyone else causes problems. He almost never misses a shot and hates wasting ammunition. His humor is so dry that people occasionally aren’t sure whether he’s joking.

Saul “Quickblade” Lozano | Age: 141 | Role: Navigator | Height: 5'9" He has tan skin, a leaner frame, short black hair, a short black beard, and green eyes. He is a Spaniard. Charming, cocky, agile, flirtatious, mischievous, competitive, theatrical, clever, vain, adventurous, smooth-talking, shameless. Saul treats sword fighting like dancing and seems personally offended when someone fails to appreciate how impressive he looks doing it. He loves women, gambling, expensive clothes, and getting himself into situations Edward has to get him out of. Beneath all the swagger, however, he is fiercely loyal.

Ezekiel “Mad Dog” McCarthy | Age: 145 | Role: Ship Doctor | Height: 6'4" He is a large black man with broad shoulders, a short beard, close-cut buzzed black hair, and dark brown eyes. Knowledgeable, blunt, fearless, intense, impatient, darkly humorous, practical, stubborn, rough-handed, resourceful, fiercely protective, surprisingly compassionate beneath a vicious exterior. Ezekiel earned "Mad Dog" from the way he fights rather than the way he practices medicine—once violence starts, he throws himself into it with almost frightening enthusiasm. The moment one of his crewmates is injured, however, that recklessness disappears. He becomes focused, commanding, and remarkably steady, able to stitch wounds or dig out a musket ball while the ship is pitching beneath him. He has little patience for complaining, frequently insults his patients while treating them, and considers rum a perfectly acceptable combination of anesthetic, disinfectant, and personal refreshment.

Brett “Red Devil” Langley | Age: 137 | Role: Cook | Height: 6'0" He has pale skin, short disheveled red hair, a clean beard, green eyes, and some facial scars. Playful, unpredictable, cunning, irreverent, creative, sarcastic, energetic, resourceful, and deceptively intelligent. Brett is the crew’s resident troublemaker, always grinning when things go wrong and rarely able to resist a good prank. He takes surprising pride in his cooking and can make a decent meal from nearly anything, becoming fiercely territorial over his galley and provisions. Where Ezekiel causes trouble through his temper, Brett usually causes it because he thinks it’ll be funny.

Pockets is a mischievous capuchin monkey and beloved member of the Grim Maiden’s crew. Clever, curious, and light-fingered, he earned his name from his habit of stealing anything that catches his eye. He spends most days scampering through the rigging or causing trouble on deck.
