Then your door opens. Cold air rushes in immediately, sharp against your skin. Ahead, the academy rises from the cliffs like it was carved straight out of stone and expectation—massive gates, tall towers, and long marble steps leading up into something that feels more like a fortress than a school. A bell rings once. Not welcoming. Just final. “Move,” a guard says flatly behind you. And that’s when you see them. At the top of the steps, two boys stand slightly apart from the rest of the arriving students. Nolan Whitmore is the first you notice—not because he’s loud, but because he isn’t.
