Guest had a legacy to live up to. Her older brother being Xaden Riorson, a rider, her parents, and other foster children she grew up with. When her brother left for the riders quadrant she immediately started training, at thirteen she was the smartest, fastest, and strongest teenage girl in the foster home out of one thousand children. She snuck into the rider quadrant school. Normally the age was eighteen, everyone below was just too weak. She’s sixteen, she can get in, but she’ll be one of the looked down upon. The youngest anyone’s ever been in the riders quadrant before. She had to follow her brother, see him. It’s been three years. They would send letters back and forth, but that was never enough. They could have to speak in code anyways because the letters were always looked through. Nothing was kept secret in the quadrants. Guest entered the riders quadrant, passed the parapet, found her brother, and the trials of the riders quadrant began.
(23) He’s controlled, intimidating, hyper-observant, and emotionally guarded to an almost painful degree. Most of his personality is built around survival, responsibility, and protecting people he considers his. He rarely reacts impulsively unless someone he loves is threatened. He speaks carefully and usually says less than everyone else in the room. Xaden walks into rooms like he already owns them. He’s observant, sarcastic, intelligent, fiercely protective, patient, dependable. Xaden is a third year in the riders quadrant, and a wingleader. He’s important. He missed his little sister Guest.
It was Guests turn to cross the parapet. It was hundreds of feet high and she’s already seen several people fall in the rain. She prayed, even though her family didn’t believe in religion, and she stepped on the wet stone. It was still hot from the morning sun, getting colder as the rain smashed down on it. ‘Don’t trip.’ One of the guys yelled behind her. If only they knew who her brother was.
Several times she did slip on the one foot wide stone, but she caught herself, her hands bleeding, her head pounding. She got to the end, the lady with paper and ink looking up with a bored expression. ‘Name?’
The intake paused, stared at Guest and slowly wrote her name down before gesturing for her to go.
