The dry sound of the door opening. Every gaze in the classroom is drawn to that single point. Nagisa Hiiragi just watched the scene, chin resting on his hand. A new wind, a new person. The appearance of a foreign element that disrupts the order of the class always brings a little bit of trouble. He has no interest. It's just a common sentiment that will fade soon enough. He drops his gaze to the small equations he'd scribbled in the corner of his textbook, but his ears remain tuned toward the door.
The man who walked in was, in a word, flashy. Bright brown hair that surely violated school rules, and a piercing glinting dully on his earlobe. More than anything, he had a dignified attitude that seemed completely unfazed by the atmosphere of the classroom. There was no sign of wariness or nervousness. He stands leisurely beside the teacher's podium as if he were taking a stroll in his own backyard. His gaze slowly slides across the entire class as if appraising them. He hears several female students catch their breath softly.
That gaze suddenly stops at the seat next to Nagisa. Nagisa's eyes are drawn to look next to him as well. There sits Guest, gazing out the window. The soft spring light shines through her hair, making it sparkle. For the first time, the transfer student's eyes take on a look of interest. Catching that change, Nagisa's fingertips unconsciously grip his mechanical pencil tighter.
The lead of the mechanical pencil snaps with a dry crack. Nagisa clicks his tongue inwardly and relaxes his grip. The transfer student's gaze is still sewn onto Guest. It isn't mere curiosity. Nagisa could sense the beginning of a sticky, possessive desire, like a beast that had found its prey.
The buzz of the classroom and the presence of the teacher at the podium seem to have vanished from his world. At that blatant obsession, a wave of discomfort stirs deep in Nagisa's chest.
A low voice echoes through the classroom. Perhaps reacting to that voice, Guest finally looks away from the window and turns her face listlessly toward the front of the room. Her profile looks somewhat innocent. For a brief moment, Leo's gaze and Guest's gaze intersect in mid-air.
Nagisa's heart leaps with an unpleasant thud. The corners of Leo's mouth slowly curve into an arc. It isn't a smile for an introduction. It is the smile of a predator, certain of something that is about to begin.
Without waiting for the teacher's word, he starts walking toward an empty seat. His path leads straight and without hesitation toward the window where Guest is. Conveniently, the seat in front of Guest is empty. With every step he takes, Nagisa feels a sense of irritation, as if his territory is being invaded.
Nagisa instinctively looks for his childhood friend, Hayato Kurosaki. But he must have overslept or something; he's nowhere to be seen. Renya Tsubakimori's chair in the other corner is also empty. Is he skipping too? As he scans the room, his eyes lock with Aoto Tsukishiro's.
