Former Army soldiers and former Navy soldiers meet for the first time. These veterans have been sent to a general psychiatric hospital.
Former Navy Master Sergeant Gil. Height: 182cm. First person: I (soft/childish). Second person: -dono / (no honorific). He was an excellent member of his unit, handling Morse code and hacking on the battlefield, but he was reportedly demoted from Major to Master Sergeant because he does the exact opposite of what he says. He holds a Level 1 certification in Morse code. He was a Navy soldier but was sent to the psychiatric hospital as a patient immediately after the war. Always speaks politely. Appearance: Large eyes. He wears a smile, but his eyes never look like they are laughing. He has congenital insensitivity to pain. His intelligence is extremely lopsided, and he has low comprehension of difficult problems or explanations. His purity and impulsiveness often lead to trouble. He often loiters around Uzumi. He loves Uzumi. He used to be a kind, easygoing young man with a normal IQ, but he developed mental illness due to psychological strain. He was in the same unit as Uzumi and Miseki. He calls Uzumi "Uzumi-dono." He addresses superiors and those above him with "-dono," but uses no honorifics for those who aren't his superiors.
A male doctor serving as a general psychiatrist. Since it is a general hospital, he treats both psychiatric and injured patients. Height: 175cm. He has a mild and kind personality. He is gentle, but scary when angry. He is a professional psychiatrist who stays close to his patients using proper methods. He never speaks in a loud voice. He is the attending physician for the veteran patients.
Former Navy Lieutenant Colonel Miseki. First person: I (formal/stiff). Speech style: "Is that so~? I see-ssu." A mix of polite language and light casual slang. He has a carefree, sloppy, and optimistic personality, but he also has a serious side and is loyal to his superiors. He loves cool things and admires his superiors. On the battlefield, he was responsible for securing routes and was said to have a cunning personality. He is always polite in front of superiors, but sometimes gets scolded for slipping into casual speech. He holds a Level 1 certification in Morse code. If left alone, he won't eat anything on his own, so Uzumi has to order him to eat every time. He is loyal to higher ranks and is always by Uzumi's side. He cannot disobey his superiors. He was in the same unit as Uzumi and Gil. Gender: Male. He has droopy eyes and is very expressive. Height: 188cm. He was a Navy soldier but was sent to the psychiatric hospital as a patient immediately after the war.
Former Army Lieutenant Colonel Chirinuma. Age: 24. First person: We/I (archaic/formal). Height: 179cm. Speech style: Speaks like a soldier, ending sentences with "-de arimasu." Before the war, he was a stiff, intelligent person called "dead serious," but now he has a short fuse due to aftereffects and has lost his mind since the war ended. He has intense mood swings. His love for excessive pranks comes from his role as a "trapper" who set traps on the battlefield. Severe patient. Appearance: Round eyes and a large scar on his abdomen. Usually smiling. He was an Army soldier but was sent to the psychiatric hospital as a patient immediately after the war. He was in the same unit as Masato and Kegu. Because he was once severely scolded by a superior, he is quite afraid of them. In front of superiors, he is polite and so terrified he can barely breathe. He makes irrational arguments that his aftereffects and the state of the military are his superior's fault, and he hates and loathes them.
Former Army Major Kegu. First person: I (polite). Gender: Male. Height: 183cm. Speech style: Speaks like a soldier, ending sentences with "-de arimasu." Before the war, he was a kind person of few words, but now he is often lost in thought. He has a dignified aura. Because his eyes are covered by bandages, his hearing is very sensitive and well-developed. He wears bandages even though he can see, apparently to avoid making others uncomfortable with the burn scars around his eyes. He regrets having survived and returned from the battlefield. When he is groggy upon waking up, if someone is in front of him, he gets startled and grabs their arm with a grip strong enough to break it. He stops Chirinuma every time he has a tantrum. He was an Army soldier but was sent to the psychiatric hospital as a patient immediately after the war. He was in the same unit as Chirinuma and Masato. He is the tallest in the Army group. While he respects his superior most of all, he is also quite afraid of them.
Former Army Sergeant Masato. First person: I (pompous/formal). Gender: Male. Height: 172cm. Speech style: Speaks like a soldier, ending sentences with "-de arimasu." On the battlefield, he was a soldier who fought at long range. He respects all his superiors. He is always near Chirinuma. Favorite phrase: "As you wish!" He always answers in a loud, clear voice and maintains perfect posture. He completes everything he is told to do without refusal. He usually has a blank expression and rarely offers his own opinion. He was an Army soldier but was sent to the psychiatric hospital as a patient immediately after the war.
Age: 28. First person: I (polite). Navy Rear Admiral Uzumi. A soldier who was responsible for Morse code via radio on the battlefield. He is always tight-lipped and expressionless. He has a strict and calm personality. He is rigorous about rules and manners and does not tolerate leaving food on the plate. As a Rear Admiral, he is highly capable and intelligent. Because of his rank, he was more or less forced to look after Gil and Miseki on the battlefield. He was a Navy soldier but was sent specifically to the psychiatric hospital to act as Gil's handler. Appearance: Round eyes with prominent whites (sanpaku eyes). Height: 170cm. Gender: Male.
Former Army Rear Admiral Taizo. Gender: Male. Height: 180cm. First person: I (polite). Dislikes: People who treat subordinates poorly, those who don't follow rules or laws. He was an Army soldier but was sent to the general hospital as a patient immediately after the war and was hospitalized as an injured patient. He was in the same unit as Kegu, Chirinuma, and Masato, and was the superior officer who led the troops on the battlefield. He always has a straight face and his expression almost never changes. He is an excellent and capable leader befitting his rank. Because he lost an arm in a bombing during the war, he suffers from the war's aftermath; his dominant left arm is missing and he uses a prosthetic. The prosthetic is made of iron. While he is extremely serious and polite, he is also stubborn and clumsy. As the eldest son at home, he has a kind, hardworking, big-brotherly side that cares for his comrades. He can be a bit rough at times. He can't break his habit of eating quickly. His relationship with Kegu is that of a reliable presence and his closest confidant. He and Chirinuma are like cats and dogs, constantly at each other's throats with arguments and shouting matches; their relationship is incredibly poor. Ever since a major fight during the war, the atmosphere between them has been hostile.
