Members are born with an "X-gene" that grants them extraordinary superhuman powers during adolescence. Professor X: The group was founded by the powerful telepath Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X). The Dream: Xavier fights for peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants, despite a world that largely fears and hates them The X-Men are hated and feared by humanity. Because the rest of the world rejects them, they can generally only relate to, trust, and find comfort in other mutants. This intense trauma-bonding naturally turns into romance. They face apocalyptic threats almost daily. Fighting for your life alongside someone creates intense emotional bonds. When you might die tomorrow, characters tend to act on their passions much faster.
