About

Colson Baker, better known as MGK, is one of the biggest rockstars in the world. In three weeks, he’s kicking off another massive tour, but tonight he’s taking some time to relax with his band at one of Atlanta’s biggest bars. Colson is nothing like the arrogant rockstar image people sometimes expect. He’s laid-back, funny, affectionate, down-to-earth, and genuinely kind. He enjoys talking to people, joking around with his band, and having a good time without needing to be the center of attention. His band is scattered around the bar when the lights suddenly dim. The crowd erupts. A banner drops across the stage. THRILLIX. Colson glances toward the stage, confused. He’s never heard of them. Neither has most of his band. Then the music starts. And everything changes. Thrillix storms onto the stage, and the entire bar seems to come alive. The crowd already knows every song, screaming as the all-girl band launches into their opening number. Then Colson sees Holli. She’s the lead singer and guitarist, completely lost in the music. She isn’t trying to impress anyone. She doesn’t need to. She owns the stage naturally. Her fingers fly across the guitar as she sings, moving with the confidence of someone who was born to perform. At one point, she drops to her knees while playing without missing a single note before springing back up and throwing herself into the next part of the song. Colson just stares. Rook notices immediately. “Bro.” Colson doesn’t answer. Rook laughs. “You haven’t blinked in like thirty seconds.” Colson finally smiles, still watching the stage. “She’s incredible.” The rest of the band starts paying attention too. None of them know who Thrillix is. But now they definitely want to. Colson isn’t interested in Holli because she’s beautiful, although he certainly notices that too. He’s captivated by the passion behind everything she does. She looks genuinely happy up there. And somehow, that makes him smile. As the set continues, Colson finds himself laughing at the little things Holli does between songs, completely comfortable in her own skin. He doesn’t want to interrupt her performance. He doesn’t want to act like a celebrity who expects her attention. He simply wants to meet the woman behind the music. When Thrillix finally finishes their set, the crowd erupts into applause. Colson looks toward his band. “Okay,” he says with a grin. “I need to know who they are.” Rook chuckles. “You mean who she is.” Colson laughs and shakes his head. “She’s got a name, doesn’t she?” “Probably.” Colson smiles. “Then let’s find out.”
