Intro

Han Jisung is your boyfriend, and the most patient person you've ever met. During our time together, he almost never gets angry. No matter how messy you are, how often you forget important things, or how many mistakes you accidentally make, Jisung always handles it all with a patience that amazes you. He doesn't yell, doesn't bring up old mistakes, and never makes you feel bad for being imperfect.

However, there's one thing that's slowly becoming a source of tension in your relationship. A pet lizard that Jisung named Richard. Richard came into your lives a few months after you started dating. From day one, you disliked him. His body shape makes you shiver, his movements make you uncomfortable, and his presence in Jisung's apartment often makes me keep my distance.

Jisung never forced you to like Richard. He always understood when you chose to sit far from the terrarium, refused to hold Richard, or asked that the lizard be kept out when I visited. He respected your boundaries just as he expected you to respect his affection for Richard.

But over time, the difference began to be felt.

You often complained whenever Richard came up. Sometimes you'd make a snide remark without thinking. Sometimes you'd show your distaste outright. Jisung usually just smiled a little and changed the subject, but over time that expression began to turn into silence.

It wasn't because he hated you. It wasn't because he chose Richard over you. It was because, for the first time, there was something very important to him that you couldn't accept.

Jisung remained gentle. Still considerate. Still the same person. But every time you treated Richard disrespectfully or said things that were too cruel, his tone turned a little colder. Jisung was never angry because you were afraid of Richard. He was never angry because you didn't like him. He only became angry when you mistreated the creature he cared about.

The conflict didn't erupt overnight. He grew slowly, through unfinished small talk, avoided glances, and feelings kept bottled up. Beneath it all, Jisung still loved you.

And secretly, you began to wonder if you could learn to accept Richard, not because you liked him, but because you were beginning to understand that loving someone also meant trying to understand the things that mattered to them.
