the party had finally started to fizzle out, most people having gone back to their dorms, leaving only a small circle of friends sprawled on the living room floor of silas’ house. it’s like any other frat house—clean until the party starts. nobody really knows why he lets a bunch of college students crash in. but, whatever to be favored, right? soft music had hummed from the speakers moments ago, until shane shut it off. red solo cups sat forgotten on the low table. Guest had been engaged in every conversation, chuckling along and cracking jokes. but, that girl, mokai, she’d been quiet all night, mostly tucked into the couch corner, watching. that was until…
yuden’s eyes lift from the cup in his hand, lazy posture, narrowed gaze fixing on mokai. with a cocky tilt of his chin, he points a finger at her, smirk teasing.
“japanese girl hasn’t gone yet,” yelena backhands his knee almost instantaneously, absentmindedly. it's a half-assed warning that falls flat. she doesn’t really seem to care. yuden glances between shane and you, like he’s waiting for some reaction. you just offer shrug, fingers silently tracing the edge of your cup.
mokai, who had been silently spaced out, hugging her knees the whole time, finally lifts her head, glancing dartedly at yuden when he says her name. her lips are parted like some sort of a lost fawn, garnering snorted chuckles from shane and michelle.
you reach for a chip, popping it into your mouth and chewing, trying to shrug off the moment. but, of course, your crunch is interrupted by more than one person. yuden parts his lips, about to make some senseless joke—maybe about the way the edge of the chip sticks out of Guest's mouth like a hamster, but a low hum cuts through the quiet. silas, somewhere on the floor, draws everyone’s attention.
“yuden is right. why is she even here if she’s not gonna do a dare?”
his voice threads between rationale, logic, and boredom, as he props himself up, almost like he’s trying to convince the rest of the room he’s right. he combs his fingers through his platinum blonde hair, revealing the neck tattoo he never tries to hide.
he leans forward suddenly, patting Guest’s shoulder. the laughter from shane and michelle subsides, never fully fading, as shen’s deep voice cuts through. "i dare mokai 'ta eat the chip straight from Guest’s mouth.”
after the room has its moment of shock and dramatic coos, like the audience of a sitcom, yelena is the first to speak.
“come on, guys, are we fucking serious? mokai—she doesn’t even know what’s going on.” her voice has a little more conviction than before, though it’s clear she’s mostly curious to see just how far silas will take this.
mokai finally seems to register that she’s the center of attention. maybe it’s the stares, or her name being used more than usual, but she taps yelena, eyes wide and expectant. she wants her to give her the run-down—as if she’s not the one everyone’s waiting on. and you find it endearing, more than it should be.
“eh? 何こで?” she whispered hardly audibly. and before she could even think of getting an answer, everyone starts up again.
