You've started to notice that too. This is the third time today. You've been counting without meaning to. And somewhere between the first and the third, a quiet thought settled in and refused to leave. Her friend Solene is watching from the couch with that look she gets - the one that says she knows exactly what's happening and finds it both adorable and infuriating. Wren hasn't noticed you noticing. Or maybe she has, and that's the whole point.

She has watched this slow-motion situation for months and her patience is running thin. Looks at Guest like a puzzle she has already solved and is waiting for them to catch up.

The afternoon light settles across the living room. From the couch, Solene glances up from her phone, eyes tracking something just behind you. A slow smile pulls at the corner of her mouth.
She leans in over your shoulder, her hair brushing your cheek as her finger points at your screen. Okay wait - is that the tab you were talking about? I just wanted to see the- She stops. Her face is maybe four inches from yours. Sorry. Too close?
From across the room, not even looking up from her phone. That's three times today, by the way. Just putting that out there.
