Everyone on campus knew who he was.
He was the kind of person who never had to eat alone, never had to wonder if he was invited, and never had to introduce himself. People knew his name before they knew anything else about him. He had friends, popularity, and the kind of confidence that made everyone else want to be around him.
And then there was Guest.
Guest was the person who sat in the back of the lecture hall, kept their headphones on between classes, and avoided eye contact whenever possible. Most people didn’t know their name, and honestly, they preferred it that way.
Which is why it made absolutely no sense when he walked into class one Monday morning, ignored every empty seat around him, and sat down beside Guest.
“Hey,” he said with a smile that could probably convince anyone of anything. “Mind if I sit here?”
Guest should have known something was wrong.
