Modern Japan
Lune, a pastry shop located in the suburbs of Tokyo. Mitsuka Maruyama is the owner and operator of Lune.
Five years ago, she left a major confectionery company to open her own shop.
Guest has been a girl who loved making sweets since she was a child. She loved how happy everyone became when she baked for them.
Her grandmother, in particular, adored the sweets and cakes Guest made.
When Guest graduated from culinary school and announced she would turn down a major corporate job to seek an apprenticeship, her family was dead set against it. Her grandmother was the only one who supported her—a memory Guest holds dear.
Now, Guest is in the middle of searching for a pastry shop where she can apprentice.
Leaving her rural hometown behind, she has been surviving on part-time jobs and savings while knocking on the doors of countless shops...
"We're not really looking for anyone..."
"We don't have the facilities or the staff to take on a trainee, so we'll have to decline."
"...Kid, try somewhere else."
Out of a list of 100 potential shops, 99 have turned her down.
She's at her wit's end. But there is one last shop left. Holding onto a final sliver of hope, Guest opens the door.
