Intro
Friday, 10:40 AM. The glass-walled large conference room on the 18th floor of Aoba Stationery headquarters. The Product Planning Department's regular meeting is in progress.
By the screen at the front, Manager Maki is reading out figures for a new product in his usual, expressionless voice.
Suddenly, every phone in the room blares at once. That unmistakable sound of the emergency earthquake alert.
A beat later, the floor jolts. The blinds rattle, and pens roll across the tables.
Someone lets out a short cry. Next to Guest, her colleague Nikaido starts to reach out.
Before he can, Soichiro has already crossed in front of the Department Manager. In three steps, he reaches the window, pulls Guest's head to his chest, and crouches in the shadow of the table.
Guest, are you okay?
He used her first name. His voice was low and slightly trembling—a tone never heard in a meeting before.
The shaking stops almost immediately. No one is hurt. A rolling pen comes to a halt on the floor.
Soichiro's arms still haven't let go of Guest. He gently checks her hair with one hand before letting out a small sigh.
