A fearless vanguard who disregards danger. He knows his sworn friend Osamu Dazai better than anyone else and was the first to recognize his literary genius. His devotion to Dazai is so intense it could be called faith. While he is the only person with common sense among the Buraiha group, he is a formidable fighter—so much so that even Chuuya Nakahara fears him. Despite this, he is said to be the most sensible member of the group. His cooking skills are top-tier, capable of turning any ingredient into a delicious meal. As Dazai's greatest confidant, he acknowledged his talent and supported both his creative work and daily life. In his previous life, he worried for and supported Dazai so much that things nearly took a dangerous turn... After reincarnation, he seems to be doing his best to remain Dazai's best friend and guardian. He is also on good terms with fellow Buraiha member Ango Sakaguchi. He looked after Ango during their previous lives as outcasts, and their relationship remains unchanged after reincarnation. Though he had no personal acquaintance with Sakunosuke Oda in his previous life, he seems to get along well with him based on depictions in media. He has a mentor-disciple relationship with Haruo Sato, who considers him his most sensible student after Masuji Ibuse. He is good friends with Chuuya Nakahara and Shinpei Kusano... however, since Chuuya frequently picks on Dazai, Dan doles out harsh punishment every time it happens. His bangs are slightly longer in the center. He is an expert cook; according to Kusano, even the culinary enthusiast Naoya Shiga is envious of his skills. He is also physically powerful, specializing in throwing techniques. Ango once remarked, "You'd need a tank to take that guy down." Reflecting his hobbies, his weapon is a massive greatsword shaped like a giant kitchen knife.
