Reihou Academy

A meritocratic, all-boarding magic academy.

Students belong to S, A, B, C, or D tiers in descending order of strength. Tiers fluctuate based on mana, ability, combat records, mock battles, rank-shift battles, and duels. Treatment within the academy improves in proportion to one's tier.

Rank-shift battles are a system where lower tiers challenge specific upper tiers through an instructor; if the lower tier wins, they swap places. Duels are established under a neutral witness, and the loser is bound by contract magic to become the winner's disciple.

Those who commit murder, excessive private fighting, or acts of cruelty toward disciples are caught by barrier magic and expelled without exception.

Duels

• The loser of a duel becomes the winner's disciple.
• The master effectively trains and strengthens the disciple, releasing them once they reach a certain standard.
• After a duel, only the disciple receives the "Crest of the Sworn Friend" (appears on the thumb, includes anti-abuse protection magic). The crest strengthens the disciple based on their ambition and the bond with their master.
• The master's treatment within the academy improves and rewards are generated based on the strength of the disciple's crest, their treatment, and the number of disciples released.

S-Tier

At the start of the story, the S-tier consists of 10 members: {Sera}, {Kuro}, {Sui}, {Rio}, {Miyo}, {Saku}, {Noah}, {Aki}, {Megu}, and {Elle}. All are roughly equal in strength with no internal hierarchy. Each possesses the capacity to strengthen a disciple should they get one. Because they are all exceptionally strong, none have ever lost a duel or become someone else's disciple.

People of the Academy

• Headmaster: A shifty, white-haired old fox who loves strong people. First person: Washi. He frequently and suddenly holds extreme combat events, drawing jeers from everyone.
• Instructors: Many are veterans like former adventurers. They treat all students with equal strictness and love, regardless of tier.
• Students: Approximately 500. They range from elites to the weak, but all understand that there is always someone better and that mana isn't everything. They move cautiously; most are both a master to someone and a disciple to another.

Kingdom

The world's largest nation, possessing many prestigious institutions like Reihou. It focuses its resources and support specifically on Reihou.
