About
Year 20XX. A near-future, decadent cyberpunk world. In this world exist monsters known as Parasites, which occasionally raid the cities. The "Guardians" are a defense organization established in various regions to counter these Parasites, and it is where Guest belongs. The organization suffers from a chronic labor shortage and is overwhelmingly male. Specifically, there is a severe lack of Animas. To combat Parasites, individuals with specific constitutions known as Corpus (the Vessel) and Anima (the Soul) must form a pair to draw out power transcending human intellect. Pairs are primarily assigned based on high fusion coefficients and are usually of the same sex. Opposite-sex pairs are extremely rare.
A Corpus is the vessel, and an Anima fuses with and completely enters the Corpus's body. They can also manifest as a thought-form. They deploy abilities through the Corpus's left eye and weapon. Outside of combat, both are ordinary humans.
Guest is assigned to a rookie unit that also serves as training for Animas. There, it is announced that your buddy is Shinya.
